Free State Stars were the runners-up in the 2017 Maize Cup, defeating Platinum Stars in the semfinals before falling to Kaizer Chiefs in the trophy-deciding match.
In this year's edition Stars will take on Chippa United in the second semi-final on Saturday, July 14 with the match set to get underway at 12h00.
Ea Lla Koto enjoyed a fantastic 2017/18 season, as they finished sixth on the PSL log and also secured a first-ever Nedbank Cup title after they beat Maritzburg United in the final in May.
The driving force behind their success was Belgian coach Luc Eymael and keeping a hold of his services could be their most significant piece of business ahead of the new season, though they have also secured the likes of Eleazar Rodgers to find goals upfront.
The Beanpole striker left Bidvest Wits after seeing out his contract at the Johannesburg club and signed a one-year deal with Free State Stars.
The 33-year-old has bags of experience and his aerial power will play well into Ea Lla Koto’s more direct style of play.
Rodgers has been around the PSL for over a decade, having first broken through with Santos in the mid to late 2000s. He went on to play for Mamelodi Sundowns, Ajax Cape Town and Platinum Stars before Wits, and he will now grace the red kit of Stars, starting with the 2018 Maize Cup.
