Kaizer Chiefs are out to lift the 2017 Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup trophy when they meet Free State Stars in the final at James Motlatsi Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is at 4:00pm.

Looking at Amakhosi, Steve Komphela will push his charges to go all out and ensure they win their second match after beating Township Rollers 2-0.

Although Amakhosi came here as favourites, facing the Botswana giants allowed them to analyse and see their progress as they prepare for the upcoming 2017/18 Premier Soccer League campaign.

Komphela will want to see more from his men as they scored twice through Gustavo Paez against the Botswana Premier Soccer outfit.

Keeping a clean sheet against Popa Popa will boost the Soweto giants, with the final encounter set to serve as a morale-booster ahead of their Carling Champion Cup against Orlando Pirates in two weeks' time.

On the other hand, Komphela will be happy with his men as he fielded his new recruit in Zimbabwean defender Teenage Hadebe.

“Yes, it is pre-season, but it is an important game for us which will give us an idea how far we have gone with our preparations,” said midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala.

"We are happy to be here and play in the Maize Cup and our mission is to do well on Saturday.

“Look, the coach will have some combinations and tactics he wants to implement and we have to take it one game at a time and see how it goes.

“We need to show our supporters the love and pass a message that football can unite people - we will give it our best and fight for to lift this one.”

Ea Lla Koto are fresh from a 1-0 win in their semifinal encounter against Platinum Stars earlier in the day and will hope to do so once again in the final.

Coach David Vilakazi wants nothing but more hard work from his charges and this pre-season tournament has presented them with a chance to measure their progress so far.

Boosted by their knowledge for the turf, Stars showed their quality in the match when they displayed brilliant touches in the contest.

However, one could say they will find the going tough when they meet Amakhosi after their previous opponents fielded as second string or youthful squad.

Striker Mohamed Anas and winger Sinethemba Jantjie will be the mean Vilakazi will hope to see doing the job upfront to cause an upset.

“Look, we did well in patches in our first game against Stars, I am happy we managed to get a win and reach the final of the tournament,” said Vilakazi.

“The mission is to do well in the final, not just to reach it and make numbers. However, I must say it will not be easy because we faced youngsters in the first match.

“We don't know our opponent yet, but whoever we meet, we must ensure we do the job and lift the trophy.

“I am happy with the combinations for now, but we will have a different team in the final because I want to see the combinations between the defenders.”

Despite having a good game, Free State Stars failed to lift the 2017 Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup trophy when they lost 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs in the final on Saturday afternoon at the James Motlatsi Stadium.

A late strike by George Lebese ensured Amakhosi lifted the trophy as they boosted their morale ahead of the Carling Champion Cup against Orlando pirates on July 29.

Although there were no clear cut chances in the first 10 minutes, but it was Danny Venter who took his trademark left-footed shots which failed to trouble goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo in the 16th minute.

The 25th minute saw David Vilakazi's charges putting Chiefs under pressure and skipper Paulus Masehe took a long range shot from outside the box, but it went over the cross bar.

It was 0-0 at half time.

Stars' striker Mohammed Anas came close in the 56th minute as he was given space by the Chiefs defence, yet his effort was parried away by Khuzwayo for a corner.

Just after the hour mark, Steve Komphela's troops pushed forward with flair, but the defence manned by Rooi Mahamutsa took no prisoners.

In the last 12 minutes, Amakhosi received a set piece in a good area and Lebese curled it in with the rebound falling for Daniel Cardoso whose effort from a volley was deflected for a corner.

However with seven minutes to go, an unmarked Lebese managed to calmly finish on the far left from a dangerous cross, 1-0.

Despite their resilience to find an equaliser, Stars were not clinical in the final third and failed to break down the Amakhosi defence as Chiefs claimed the trophy.
