Kaizer Chiefs and Township Rollers will lock horns in the 2017 Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup semi-final at the James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 12h00 CAT.

Affectionately known as Amakhosi by their passionate fans, Chiefs will be making their debut appearance in the pre-season tournament.

The South Africa giants began their 2017/18 pre-season training programme on 3 July, 2017 with new faces among the squad.

Former Maritzburg United wing-back Philani Zulu and former Cape Town City winger Bhongolethu Jayiya joined Chiefs as free-agents, while Teenage Hadebe was signed from Chicken Inn.

Steve Komphela, the Chiefs head coach, is expected to unleash the club's new signings at the Maize Cup and hopefully reach the final of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Rollers will be making their return to the Maize Cup having participated in the inaugural edition in 2015 in Moruleng.

Nicknamed Popa Popa, Rollers have been busy preparing for the 2017/18 season and they have appointed Serbian tactician Nikola Kavazovic as their head coach.

The 2016/17 Botswana Premier League (BPL) champions have boosted their squad with the signing of South African winger Tshepo Matete, who was once on the books of Baroka FC.

Popa Popa will be keen to reach the final of this year's tournament having lost to Platinum Stars in the 2015 Maize Cup semi-final encounter.

The last time Chiefs and Rollers met in a competitive match was in the 2015 CAF Champions League preliminary round second-leg game.

Amakhosi emerged 1-0 winners thanks to Siyabonga Nkosi's first-half goal at the National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana.

Kaizer Chiefs proved too strong for Botswana’s Township Rollers, as they claimed a 2-0 win in the teams’ Maize Cup semifinal on Saturday at James Motlatsi Stadium.

A brace from Gustavo Paez saw the Amakhosi to a victory which puts them into the Maize Cup final against Free State Stars, with kick-off at the same venue set for 4pm CAT today.

Chiefs handed starts to new signings Teenage Hadebe and Bhongolethu Jayiya, while the Rollers XI featured notable Botswana national team players like Maano Ditshupo and the highly-regarded Segolame Boy, as well as former Bloemfontein Celtic star Joel Mogorosi was on the bench.

The Amakhosi settled the quicker of the two teams and soon began creating half chances. On 18 minutes they claimed the lead, with Tsepo Masilela and Bernard Parker combining down the left of attack to tee up Gustavo Paez, who easily finished off from close range to make it 1-0.

Rollers struggled to establish themselves in the game, with their passing in the final third of the field falling apart as soon as they were put under pressure by Chiefs’ defence.

The Botswana visitors remained a goal down through the rest of the first half and the first quarter hour of the second, prompting them to make a double change on the hour mark which saw the introduction of Mogorosi and Tshepo Mothlabankwe.

Yet there was no way back for Rollers, especially when they went 2-0 down with just under 10 minutes to play: Tsepo Masilela was tripped in the box by Obuile Ncenga, leading to a penalty which was coolly converted by Paez to end the game as a contest.
